The Grand Island Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition

Randy See, Project Coordinator

randys@kdsi.net

Mission Statement

Our mission is to improve the health, well-being, and safety of Grand Island residents by working collaboratively to reduce substance abuse and challenge social norms about substance use.

Problem Statement

The illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs by youth is the problem we are targeting.

The next Coalition meeting will be held on Thursday, September 18th  at 2:00 p.m. at the

Grand Island Administration Building in the Platte Room.

Our Mission:
To educate adults to the consequences of allowing underage drinking.
To reduce the number of underage drinkers in Central Nebraska.
To reduce the number of alcohol-related vehicle accidents attributed to underage drinking.
To alter the community perception in regard to underage drinking.

To meet these goals, area law enforcement personnel will present the facts of underage drinking to community and parental groups in their area. The measure of success will be the reduction of alcohol-related vehicle accidents and the reduction of "minor-in-possession" arrests.

Tobacco Free Hall County (TFHC), a local tobacco control coalition in Grand Island / Hall County, Nebraska, was formed in the fall of 1994. Coalition members & affiliated agencies participate in tobacco prevention & control activities and projects. The current "virtual" membership involves thousands of local tobacco control advocates. Agencies and organizations as well as students & citizens are engaged in a multitude of interventions. Tobacco Free Hall County meets monthly with a core group of tobacco control advocates who coordinate the initiatives of the coalition.

Vision Statement
Affiliates of Tobacco Free Hall County
envision a future free of tobacco.

Mission Statement
The mission of Tobacco Free Hall County is to promote healthy lives free of tobacco in all its forms. Coalition members & affiliates know that all forms of tobacco products interfere with healthy lifestyles & harm both users & those near the users. They also know that tobacco use often leads to the use of other drugs.
