INFORMATION/REFERRAL

 

Lending Library-  CNCAA has a free-loan library of substance-abuse related materials.  We have more than 1200 books, videos, and audio tapes for loan in 44 different categories including, but not limited to: Personal/Spiritual Growth, Emotional/Mental Illnesses, Parenting, Sex/Love Addiction, Shame, Abuse, AA/Alcoholism, Compulsive Gambling, Tobacco/Smoking, Methamphetamine, Marijuana, Other Drugs, Eating Disorders, Adult Children of Alcoholics, School/Teacher/ Counselors material, Elementary Middle School and High School Material.  New titles are added regularly.

Bookstore- We have a large selection (over 400 titles) of books, pamphlets, greeting cards and gift items.  Some are available in Spanish.  New items are added regularly!

Informational Resources- CNCAA is a source for current print materials regarding alcohol, tobacco and other drugs(articles, pamphlets, meeting lists, posters, etc.)  Most are free; some available in Spanish.  CNCAA can also provide information and guidance regarding safe, reliable internet sites for accurate drug prevention and treatment information.  Great resource for school/college term papers, research papers, speech preparation, ETC.

 

Referral- CNCAA provides referral information for persons needing treatment services, self-help groups, or other human services agencies.  We are a listening and compassionate ear in times of crisis.

 

Support for recovering persons- CNCAA provides timely education programs for persons in recovery to help support and enhance the process of recovery

EDUCATION

 

CLASSROOM PROGRAMS - CNCAA provides educational programs for students pre-K through College on alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. These include the “Talking with Frankie” puppet show series designed for 3rd-4th grade classrooms. “I’m Special” days are also a possibility for classroom programming. Individual programs are designed/scheduled upon request specific to your needs.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMING - CNCAA offers alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention programming to elementary students in an after-school setting.


~~ Discovery Kids is a free, 6-week educational program for elementary-age children in grades 1-5 who want to have fun as they learn more about themselves in a safe and supportive environment.  This prevention program is designed to help children: Explore and express feelings in a safe and supportive environment ; Learn a variety of problem-solving, coping, and self-care strategies; Build self-esteem, self-worth, and positive feelings about themselves; Discuss the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; Simply be kids by learning to have fun in safe and healthy ways

~~Finding Peace: Dealing with Anger is a free, 6-week educational program for elementary-age children in grades 1 - 5 who want to have fun as they learn more about themselves in a safe and supportive environment. This program is designed to help elementary-aged students better understand their anger so they can make healthy and successful choices. The overall objectives of this program are for youth to realize that they can control their behavior and develop skills and strategies to manage their feelings, which in turn increases self-esteem.

~~Kid’s Power is a free program specifically designed for children ages 6-12 who are affected by a loved one’s addiction. This is an 8-week program offered at the Council offices, with each session being 1.5 hours in length. A Kid’s Power series is held approximately every 10 – 12 weeks. (This could be offered on-site as an after school program as well.)

~~Teen Power is a free program specifically designed for youth ages 13-17 who are affected by a loved one’s addiction. This is an 8-hour program offered at the Council offices, with each session being 2-4 hours long, depending upon group needs. (This could be offered on-site as an after school program as well.)

TEACHER INSERVICES AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE - CNCAA provides training and technical assistance for teachers and other educators (early childhood, elementary, middle/junior high, high schools, and colleges) on alcohol-tobacco-, and other drug- related issues, including policy development.

TRAININGS FOR PROFESSIONALS - Workshops, teleconferences, and seminars on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug-related issues tailored for alcohol/drug counselors and mental health providers are scheduled upon request. CNCAA annually sponsors a nationally-known speaker for its spring seminar and evening banquet, which is open to the public as well as to professionals. (Continuing education hours are available for most workshops.)

COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE - Technical assistance and referral information is provided to communities to assist in developing comprehensive planning for substance abuse prevention, intervention, treatment, and aftercare. CNCAA is an active partner in many local and area substance abuse coalitions. CNCAA provides youth leadership development in the form of a Youth Congress – both at the Middle and High School levels. CNCAA staff is available for community and workplace presentations upon request.
